There are two main methods for pressing linseed oil: hot pressing and cold pressing. Hot pressing has a high oil yield and the oil has a toasted aroma, but unsaturated fatty acids such as α-linolenic acid will be partially oxidized and lost due to high temperature. Cold pressing has a lower oil yield, but it can prevent the oxidation and deterioration of unsaturated fatty acids. From the perspective of nutritional ingredients, cold-pressed flaxseed oil has a higher vitamin E content, while hot-pressed oil has higher sterol and phospholipid contents than cold-pressed oil.
